Dear Varina Youth Baseball Parents and Players,
The Varina Youth Sports Baseball season is just around the corner and registration is openhttps://www.varinayouthsports.org/ . I wanted to extend a warm welcome on behalf of the entire Board of Directors to our returning baseball families, as well as to all new families in our community playing baseball for the first time.
At a time when children have many sports and activities to choose from, we are honored and thrilled that a large number of boys and girls between the ages of four and fifteen have chosen to play baseball. The Varina Youth Baseball organization has served the community for decades, providing a positive environment for the development of sportsmanship, character, and athletic skill among our youth.
For the first time we reached out to the community for input on how to effectively improve our organization and the services we offer. We listened. Many of our families responded and we took their advice to heart. We revamped a few things starting with our newly elected Board of Directors. We have elected individuals who display a deep affection for providing an emphasis on fundamentals, participation, development, teamwork, safety, family involvement, and fun, all while developing an appreciation for the game of baseball.
Speaking of family involvement, we are also working hard to bring the community back to the ball field. We all missed the days when grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, and church members would come out and cheer on our community youth. As a parent myself, I know what a thrill it was to watch my children play for the first time and watch them grow and improve throughout the years. Those are memories I will cherish for a lifetime. I challenge each of you to register your children, invite your family and friends, and meet us at the ballpark for a hopping good time. We are committed to leaving our ego at home and ensuring the attitude we display on the field is all about having a great time and learning the great game of baseball.
We will no longer have a traditional opening ceremony, but instead we elected to make the experience more personal for our kids. We will personally announce each player and have them line up for the national anthem. No games or practices will be held during Spring Break, or Easter Holiday weekend. We are committed to our children developing spiritually through their place of worship. Additionally, there will be a mid-season festival where we all can attend and enjoy the community, events, and food.
The Board is constantly working to improve our league and make it better for the boys and girls in our community. As such, one of our goals is to always improve on communication, and with that in mind, hopefully this welcome letter will address questions we have received about the league. This year our website we include a direct inbox for comments and concerns relating to issues that arise throughout the year.
I would like to extend a warm thank you to our 2020Board Members. I applaud each of you for the time you have given so freely and the sacrifices each of you havemade to help make Varina Youth Sports better. The sacrifices of everyone’s time and efforts, including your unwavering dedication to this league, are greatly appreciated.
I look forward to serving you along with this awesome Board. Let’s do our best to make it better!
President, Varina Youth Sports (Baseball)
